Long-distance love was never the fantasy, nor was it something created by a matchmaker. It was simply an unbuilt love—a love that slowly began to take shape through the presence of feelings.
A feeling that turned into something beautiful. Something that brought butterflies to the stomach, a quiet happiness beneath the face, and a dreamy feeling that was difficult to explain.
Long-distance love also brought fear, anxiety, uncertainty, and timeless waiting for the person you loved to finally come closer. You learn that love is not only about the beautiful moments. It is also about waiting, understanding, trusting, and making an effort when the person you want beside you is far away.
Effort matters. Love matters. Communication matters.
But there is something even deeper the presence of someone when they are not physically there.
Sometimes, a person can be miles away and still feel closer to you than anyone else. Their words can bring peace. Their care can make you feel safe. Their presence can be felt even in their absence.
Being anxious is okay. Missing someone is okay. Wanting their presence is okay. But along with all of that comes the responsibility of caring, understanding, and giving your best to the person you love.
A relationship should also be a safe place a place of peace, comfort, happiness, and enjoyment. Distance may test love, but it should not take away the feeling of being valued and cared for.
Every stage of love has its own rules, its own challenges, and its own lessons. But reaching a stage where love becomes unconditional where you continue to care, understand, wait, and choose each other despite the distance is something that can truly be called long-distance love.
Perhaps long-distance love is not about how far apart two people are.
Perhaps it is about how close they remain in each other's hearts, even when they cannot be beside each other.
